CASE STUDY
DUBAI, UAE
OVERVIEW
Dubai Design District (D3) is a 200 hectare Masterplan that positions Dubai as a global centre of design, combining high growth fashion, luxury and art markets with a mix of cutting-edge industrial, product, interior, architectural, conceptual, graphic and digital design. Part of a wider plan for EXPO 2020, the district will foster opportunities in the luxury, design, retail and hospitality industries as well as providing a channel for discovery of new MENA talent. The overall strategy for the masterplan grid is based on the superplot approach – each superplot comprises of 4 subplots combining office and residential typologies around a shared courtyard.
Our Urban Design team worked closely with the client on the Masterplan from the project’s initial stages, allowing relative creative freedom to propose a plan that highlights the purpose and global image of the development. Including a design institute, art and design museum, convention centre, design studios and a 2 kilometres long waterfront promenade, the architecture and public realm were designed simultaneously, creating a continuous design language. This new Dubai neighbourhood offers residential, commercial, retail and hospitality real estate, characterised by distinct public spaces, unique street furniture and shaded walkways.
