CASE STUDY
ABU DHABI
OVERVIEW
The MC2 project is a prime example of how we approach sustainable design in a meaningful way. Located in the heart of Masdar City, Abu Dhabi, the development aligns closely with Masdar’s vision of creating a vibrant, energy-efficient environment. One of the key design elements is the integration of the ‘Masdar Building Grid’ with the ‘Environmental Grid.’ This approach has allowed us to design a space that maximizes natural cooling through wind catches placed at the intersection of these grids, helping reduce the impact of the harsh desert climate. The layout encourages a balance of indoor and outdoor spaces, where courtyards and open areas offer places for informal meetings and individual work.
Drawing inspiration from ancient Arabic cities, the close spacing of buildings ensures optimal shading for pedestrian paths and thoroughfares, enhancing comfort for the community. The development also prioritizes the well-being of its users, with a central hub that includes amenities like daycare, a gym, dining options, and meditation and prayer rooms. This fosters a sense of community within the workplace campus. The project also includes a new Net Zero headquarters building, strategically placed by the central plaza to promote easy access and interaction with the surrounding spaces.
